Learn From a Certified Handgun Combat Master

Our owner, Jon Reynolds, grew up in Orem, Utah, with a passion for guns and shooting. Originally, it was all about recreation, target shooting, and hunting. But as he matured, Jon realized the importance of being ready and willing to defend himself and others against the evil that exists in the world.

Jon got a CCW permit and bought a handgun and a holster. He could shoot accurately, but he knew he was lacking in training. He thought about getting some training but kept putting it off until one day in February of 2007. The news reported on an active shooter in Salt Lake City at the Trolley Square Mall. The shooter killed five bystanders and wounded four others before being stopped by an off-duty police officer who had been carrying concealed. That really brought home the fact that evil can happen anywhere, anytime. Jon decided that day to get some training.

He signed up for a four-day defensive handgun class at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. He loved that class, and in the months following, he found that he really enjoyed teaching his friends the things he had learned there. Jon took other classes, and three years later, he decided to make a career change and went to work there. While there, he became a Senior Range Master and in 2014 passed the Front Sight Handgun Combat Master Test to become the 15th certified Handgun Combat Master. Most people have never heard of that test and have no idea what it entails. But to put it in perspective, of the tens of thousands of people that have trained there, only 37 people have achieved that.

Jon loved his time working there, but in 2022, Front Sight declared bankruptcy and was sold off. He decided not to stay on with the new company and started Duty to Defend instead. At Duty to Defend, we're happy to teach people how to carry a gun safely and use it efficiently. We enjoy what we do, and we want to share our knowledge with you.
